About controversial.info
controversial.info is a small web project that surfaces the fifty most-discussed controversial topics from public discussion sites every twenty-four hours. Each entry is rewritten by an AI model into a short, neutral analysis that summarises both sides of the argument.
How topics are chosen
An automated job runs once per day at 03:00 UTC. It pulls the day's high-engagement posts from public sources, including Reddit (r/controversial, r/AmItheAsshole, r/changemyview, r/unpopularopinion), Hacker News, and a configurable list of RSS feeds. Topics are ranked by an engagement signal and deduplicated by title similarity, then the top fifty are kept.
How posts are written
Each topic is sent to a Google Gemini model (gemini-3-flash-preview) under a prompt that requires neutral framing, at least two opposing viewpoints, no fabricated quotes, and no defamatory statements about identifiable individuals. Output is constrained to a small set of HTML tags so the editorial styling stays consistent.
Comments
Anyone can comment without an account. Comments are anonymised behind a randomly assigned handle and rate-limited per IP. Profanity is masked rather than blocked. reCAPTCHA v3 keeps automated submissions out.
